An almost forgotten item in her discography and long unavailable, 'Sings Broadway' (1962) is an ideal companion to the essential Ella songbooks and finds her lovingly interpreting songs by Adler & Ross, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe and Frank Loesser. Her take on the latter's 'Warm All Over' leaves you feeling just that, as do the lively, animated versions of 'Almost Like Being In Love' and 'Dites-Moi', and the sympathetic Marty Paich arrangements are felicitious and highly swinging. Though ultimately less essential than her Kern, Porter and the other Tin Pan Alley collections, this is still a delightful session, beautifully packaged and well documented.
