 | Eddie Vinson: Clean Head's Back In Town- Eddie Vinson Sings (CD: Bethlehem) One of the all-time great blues shouters, having featured as vocalist with numerous leading big bands and small groups from the mid-30's onwards, Eddie Vinson recorded these classic sides for Bethlehem in 1957. Touring with the Count Basie Orchestra at the time, he made these relaxed recordings with a small Basie unit, the instrumentation being very much in the Kansas City tradition of close-ensemble. The arrangements are distinguished by soulful and inventive passages packed with colour and mood, with satisfying horn solos and sparkling keyboard work. The songs themselves are a mixture of standards and self-penned titles delivered in Vinson's unique Texas style, combining elements of the shout technique with his own tricks of phrasing. Contains 3 bonus stereo tracks. (Snapper Music)

Eddie Vinson: Kidney Stew Blues (CD: Proper) A musician who straddled the divide between blues and jazz, singer and saxophonist Vinson wrote many key tunes, including two made famous by Miles Davis - "Tune Up" and "Four". This Proper Introduction presents both sides of this great musician, featuring his early Big Bill Broonzy influenced vocal performances with Cootie Williams & His Orchestra that surely cement his place as one of the founding fathers of Rhythm & Blues music.
