Claire Martin: The Early Years Anthology (CD: Linn, 4 CDs)Claire Martin: The Early Years Anthology (CD: Linn, 4 CDs)
Linn Records is delighted to announce the release of “The Early Years Anthology”, a four disc box set of Claire Martin’s first four albums – including her best-selling title “Old Boyfriends” -now respectfully re-packaged.

Linn Records signed Claire Martin in 1991 following a performance at Glasgow Jazz Festival. It was the start of a special relationship that has seen her develop an international reputation as an artist of the highest calibre, securing five British / BBC Jazz Awards along the way. Martin’s arrival on the global jazz scene was explosive and her development, for such a young singer, remarkable. Critics and audiences alike were enthused by her fresh approach, imaginative repertoire and stunning live shows sparking comparisons with Peggy Lee. Now, twelve albums later, we present a celebration of the early studio recordings. Witness the beginnings of a wonderful career, the work of an inspirational talent and, above, the voice of a truly great jazz singer.

The albums themselves feature such talents as Jim Mullen, Arnie Somogyi, Nigel Hitchcock, Iain Ballamy, Clark Tracey, Gareth Williams and Gerard Presencer. (Linn Records)

Claire Martin: Secret Love (CD: Linn)
Linn Records announces the release of "Secret Love", Claire Martin's 10th album for the label. Claire celebrates her jazz roots with a splendid line-up of some of Britain's top jazz talents. Produced by Richard Cottle, "Secret Love" features Nigel Hitchcock, Gareth Williams, Laurence Cottle and Clark Tracey. Special guest artists include the much acclaimed guitarist Jim Mullen who features in a duet with Claire Martin on the track Where Do You Start. Sir Richard Rodney Bennett plays piano on My Buddy which Claire dedicates to her friend, the late, Joel Siegel (Sir Richard has championed Claire's work since her debut "The Waiting Game"). Ian Shaw adds his special touch to the vocals on the Costello/Bacharach track God Give Me Strength and Michael Franks's Hip Jive. The best known track on "Secret Love" is probably Cheek To Cheek, made famous by Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers, though they may have difficulty dancing to it at this tempo! There's also the classic Judy Garland number Get Happy. The Meaning Of The Blues is a latin/cool song, originally a hit for Shirley Horn. (Linn Records)

Claire Martin & Richard Rodney Bennett: Witchcraft (SACD: Linn)
Claire Martin and Richard Rodney Bennett have taken their creative partnership to the next level with this album. Bennett's elegant playing and distinguished style fuse beautifully with the vocals of Britain's First Lady of Jazz.

This album contains a thoughtful selection of songs from the Cy Coleman songbook. Together, this collection weaves together the opposing talents of the sultry jazz sensation Claire Martin and the polished, savvy keyboard skills and compositional insight of Richard Rodney Bennett. Martin's strength as one of the best interpreters of the Great American Songbook shines through in this recording. The smoky elegance of her vocal sculpts itself around the smooth flowing textures of the piano accompaniment and the occasional vocal repartee of Bennett. The result of this established partnership is mesmerising music that takes you back to a wonderful and simpler time of yesteryear. (Linn Records)

Claire Martin with Kenny Barron: Too Much In Love To Care (CD: Linn)Claire Martin with Kenny Barron: Too Much In Love To Care (CD: Linn)
Too Much in Love to Care (Claire Martin sings with Kenny Barron) is the new recording from Britain's First Lady of Jazz, Claire Martin. This, her first US studio recording for fifteen years, features American jazz pianist Kenny Barron, 'one of the top jazz pianists in the world' (LA Times).

Recorded at Avatar Studios in New York City, one of the greatest recording facilities in the world, Too Much in Love to Care contains classic romantic songs from The Great American Songbook, opening with the supremely optimistic title track from Sunset Boulevard. Right from the album's enchanting start, it's easy to see why Kenny Barron's ability to mesmerise audiences with his elegant playing, sensitive melodies and infectious rhythms has made him the perfect complement to the smoky elegance of Claire Martin's vocals.

Together they set out to 'glorify love' with jazz classics from Gershwin's 'Embraceable You' and 'How Long Has This Been Going On?' to Jimmy Dorsey's 'I'm Glad There Is You'. The result is a beautiful and tender collection of ballads from a combination so perfect, that at least half of the songs are first takes (astonishing considering this was the first time they played together). The chemistry between Martin and Barron on Too Much in Love to Care is undeniable. (Linn Records)

Claire Martin & Richard Rodney Bennett: Say It Isn't So (CD: Linn)
‘Say It Isn't So' is a joyful celebration; both of the impeccably crafted songs of Irving Berlin and of the unique partnership between two seasoned performers at the top of their game: Claire Martin and the late Richard Rodney Bennett.

Lifelong friends on and off stage, Martin and Bennett recorded three studio albums and enjoyed acclaimed concert performances in a collaboration that flourished over two decades. Recorded in New York, ‘Say It Isn't So' is their last recording together and one of which Claire is immensely proud. Bennett's skilful arrangements highlight why Berlin was widely considered one of the greatest songwriters of all time and brilliantly showcase Claire's assured and expressive voice. (Linn Records)

Claire Martin & Ray Gelato: We've Got A World That Swings (CD: Linn)
Following sell out tour dates of their new swing show, the duo took to the studio; Ray's jumpin' vocals and sax provide an ideal foil for Claire's velvety voice. The result is irresistible.

The song selection is a delicious serving of some of the most sumptuous morsels in the Great American Songbook including a classy R&B treatment of Billie Holiday's 'Now Baby Or Never'. The breadth of Claire's stylistic and vocal range is perfectly displayed among these tracks: listen to her boogaloo take on 'You Came A Long Way From St. Louis' or her interpretation of the melody on 'More Than You Know', which is a vocal masterclass.

Ray's brilliant original 'A Swingin' Affair' sets the tone for an album that is the perfect antidote to 21st century life. The duo is accompanied by a trio of world-class musicians: pianist David Newton (Stacey Kent), bassist Dave Whitford (Bobby Wellins Quartet) and drummer Sébastian de Krom (Jamie Cullum). Claire Martin: Believin' It (CD: Linn)Claire Martin: Believin' It (CD: Linn)
Claire Martin is joined by her all-Swedish trio as she celebrates another career milestone: recording her twentieth album for Linn Records. Uppsala-born pianist/arranger Martin Sjöstedt leads the trio comprising bassist Niklas Fernqvist and drummer Daniel Fredriksson. Sjöstedt, one of Sweden’s most gifted and talked about jazz musicians, has created imaginative new arrangements of contemporary material exclusively for Claire.

Encompassing a century’s worth of tunes, tracks include ‘Broken Wings’ by Mr. Mister and ‘I’m Not in Love’ by 10cc, as well as favourites by Joe Locke, Joni Mitchell, Ivan Lins and Pat Metheny. Claire remembers legendary singer Lena Horne with her own arrangement of ‘Come Runnin’’ and pays tribute to Norway’s Karin Krog with ‘Cherry Tree Song’. (Linn Records)
