| ||Geri Allen & Timeline: Live (CD: Motema)|
Pianist Geri Allen is a true original. Rhythmically subtle yet startlingly provocative, Allen respects the jazz tradition, but refuses to be bound by it. 'Live' can best be described as a radical jazz and tap dance album and is the first "live" recording of Allen's career.
'Live' features her working quartet nimbly and ferociously interacting with each other, reinventing the dialogue between the dance and the drums. This extraordinary ensemble includes veteran bassist Kenny Davis, and brilliant new talents Kassa Overall on multi-percussion set and tap sensation Maurice Chestnut. In the last three decades Allen has amassed a stunning resume of musical collaborations including modern greats Charles Lloyd, Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Ornette Coleman and many others. Allen's excellent musicianship was internationally recognized in 1996 when she was the first woman to win the coveted Danish Jazzpar prize. (Proper Music)
