Jack McDuff with Jimmy Forrest: Tough Duff (CD: Prestige- US Import)
Jack McDuff switched from bass to organ in the 1950s and left near-poverty in Chicago for fame and celebrity in New York. Featured first with Willis Jackson and then with his own band, McDuff built a huge following almost immediately.

Tough ‘Duff, his second LP as a leader, was the first of two meetings with Jimmy Forrest. Their organ/tenor interplay is remarkable throughout; Forrest is at the top of his game. The program is solid mainstream fare which leads to a minimum of confusion and maximum of swing. (Fantasy, Inc.)

Jack McDuff and Gene Ammons: Brother Jack Meets The Boss (CD: Prestige- US Import)Jack McDuff and Gene Ammons: Brother Jack Meets The Boss (CD: Prestige- US Import)
Jack McDuff and Gene Ammons were both sophisticated enough to deal with bebop if required, yet each was aware of their audience’s concern with blues, ballads, and swinging fare.

This session features Ammons sitting in with McDuff’s quartet of the time. Within a few short months, George Benson would be on guitar and Red Holloway on tenor, and McDuff’s star took off like a rocket. Though Ammons was still dealing with his personal demons, he delivered the full range of his abilities as always. (Fantasy, Inc.)

Jack McDuff: Moon Rappin' (Vinyl LP: Blue Note/ Heavenly Sweetness)
‘Moon Rappin’’ is one of Brother Jack Mcduff’s most ambitious efforts, a loose concept album that finds the organist exploring funky and spacey soundscapes. In many ways, ‘Moon Rappin’ is a fairly typical album of its time, boasting wahwah guitars, flutes, spacious reverb, long bluesy vamps, orchestras, and disembodied backing vocals, but it also stands offers some excellent improvisations and unpredictable moments, like the stuttering organ and nearly free interludes on “Made in Sweden”.

Paris based label Heavenly Sweetness are proud to present this collection of rare gems from the Blue Note / United Artists vault. All the LPs are high quality reissues: Quality sound taken directly from the original master tapes, 180g vinyl, heavy cardboard sleeve and original artwork. (Proper Music)
